MGR-S1-552-2 5kV Insulation Resistance Tester
-2 version is CAT IV certified.
The MGR-S1-552-2 insulation resistance tester (megger) is designed
specifically to assist the user with the testing and maintenance of high
Noise rejection of 2 mA rms at 200 V and above is a standard feature. This
enables the instrument to take effective readings in high noise environments
such as high voltage substations and switchyards.
Automatic insulation resistance (IR), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR),
polarization index (PI), step voltage (SV), and dielectric discharge (DD)
The S1-552-2 measurement range extends to 15 Tohm, and offers variable test
voltages of 50V to 1kV in 10 V steps and 1kV to 5kV in 25V steps.
The MGR-S1-552-2 and the MGR-S1-554 have the same specs. The only difference
the noise rejection capability. The S1-55(2)-2 is rated at 2mA rms@200v and
S1-55(4)-2 is rated at 4mA rms@200v. An S1-554-2 can easily sub for a S1-552-2
The S1-552-2 has a large, easy-to-read backlit LCD making it equally suitable
for use in both bright sunlight and poorly lit environments.
Information displayed includes resistance, voltage, leakage current,
capacitance, battery status and time constant.
In addition, the elapsed time is displayed constantly, removing the need
for separate timers. It also allows up to 3 timed measurement positions to
be set, which simplifies DAR testing.
The unit can operate on line or battery power.
Input voltage range is 95-240V +/-10% rms 50/60Hz.
Battery operation is rated at 6 hours continuous testing at 5kV.
S1-55(4) is rated at 4mA rms@200v. An S1-554 can easily sub for a S1-552.
The MGR-S1-552-2 is designed for testing the insulation of high-voltage
electric equipment. Its wide voltage range allows applications for low-voltage
equipment. Generators, motors, transformers, cables and switchgear all require
effective maintenance. The test techniques on the instruments provide valuable
The instrument tests the insulation resistance of:
- High-voltage power cables and high-voltage buses
- Large motor/generator windings
- Line and substation transformers
Performs spot tests, step-voltage tests, and dielectric absorption tests
for the following applications:
- Acceptance testing at an installation to check conformance to
- Routine preventive/predictive maintenance testing after installation.
- Quality assurance testing as part of the manufacturing process.
- Diagnostic testing to isolate faulty components for repair.
- Contamination testing of service aged insulation.
The MGR-S1-552-2 replaces the legacy models listed below.
